Trump’s tariff policies have been all over the place since so-called “Liberation Day”, with so many pauses and changes that the only thing easy to keep track of has been the rapidly dumping stock market.
In the clip above from Last Week Tonight John Oliver does his best to sum up the whole mess, talking about everything from the origins of Trump’s love of tariffs to the reaction his changing policies have had from Fox pundits and Republicans.
“Look, I don’t know where things are going to go next,” sums up Oliver. “We’re taping this on Saturday, who knows what’s happened between now and when you are seeing this. Maybe Trump will have rolled the tariffs back even further, maybe he’ll have put even bigger new ones on mangos. What is clear is he’s destabilising our economy with no real plan of action.”
